papercutting

Papercuts of mine have been published as illustrations in a short story anthology by Duality, which also contains one of my short stories, and as the cover art of the Fairy Tale Redux issue of the Vestal Review - online edition here.

Below are two papercuts I have done as commissions - the first for a sixtieth birthday, the second for a joint 40th birthday. I base the designs on descriptions of the recipient's style and interests. These are about 5.5 inches square. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like an original present designing. I'm working on one for a wedding at the moment.

I have finally completed all the papercut illustrations for my picture book, and am now in the process of putting the images together with the words to make a real live book.

The trickiest part of this process has been working out how to effectively capture a papercut in a photograph - I have my brother Richard to thank for these final images, after hours spent moving lamps around and changing exposures.
